Out of curiosity, what was the situation under Lavaux in the North Province as far as emancipation and racial equality went? Closer to the Colored Supremacy of the south or Toussaint's equality?

This is really fascinating. Most of my knowledge of Haiti dates from the '90s onward. Apparently, the depressingly high deforestation that Haiti is currently afflicted with got its start after independence when Haiti was trying to dig its way out of a gargantuan black hole of debt. I'm not sure if you're going up to the 1820s, since technically the revolution ended in 1804, but if so allow me to start the chorus of "WTH, France?!"
